This is an email sent out by the AZ Dept. of Veterans’ Services.  Thanks, Dave, for helping to get the word out about our ride!

America’s heroes come in all sorts of guises. While we are most familiar with our heroes in uniform, on a white marble wall in a lobby in Langley, Virginia, five rows of hand-carved black stars remind us of the ultimate sacrifice made by men and women who have served our nation in the Central Intelligence Agency.

It is rare that a public appeal is made to assist the families of America’s “secret warriors”, but that’s exactly what one retired CIA officer and his wife are doing as they ride bicycles across the U.S. this fall.  Rob Richer (former USMC) and his wife, Kim (former USMC) are gathering pledges for their trip through our southern states east to west, “Khost to coast” as they say on their website referring to the loss of CIA officers in Khost, Afghanistan in December, 2009.

Rob and Kim’s ride will begin on 11 September 2010 in St. Augustine, Florida.  They plan to arrive in Phoenix on Monday, 18 October 2010 as they reach the last few days of their ride. I will keep you updated on their ride as we get close.

All donations to their ride will go to The CIA Officers Memorial Fund which benefits the families of CIA officers who die or who are injured in the line of duty.

Please take time to visit the website “Pedaling for Patriots-The CIA Memorial Fund Ride” at

You can click on the photograph of the CIA Officers Memorial on the right hand side of the website page for information on contributing to this most worthy cause.

Please share this with your members and all other Arizona veterans you can think of.  Let’s make our state proud by demonstrating the generosity of our veteran community!

Thank you,

Dave
